Obituary of Richard L. Poppy

Richard Poppy, 89, of Unionville, died Friday, January 29, 2016, at McLaren Bay Region Hospital in Bay City, after a brief illness. He was born on December 20, 1926, in Unionville, Michigan, to the late Wilbur and Mildred (Russell) Poppy. On February 18, 1950, he was married to Audrey Ewald. Richard served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II from February 1944 to May 1946. He retired from the former Sebewaing Industries after 38 years. Richard was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Unionville, for most of his life.
Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Audrey; three daughters, Cindy (Larry) Howell of Reese, Nan (Dave) Kober of Tustin, and Roxanne (Leo) Ainsworth of Unionville; seven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; sister, Patricia Pomerville of Bay City; sisters-in-law, Gertrude Ewald, Alice Hadden, Kay (Cu) Nguyen, Carol Poppy, Helen Poppy; several nieces and nephews. Richard was predeceased by three brothers, Russell, Kenton, and Jack; a grandson, Treg Szerlong; and brothers-in-law Leland Ewald and Derward Pomerville.
A Funeral Service will take place at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, February 2, 2016, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 5139 French Rd., Unionville MI, with Pastor Paulette Cummings officiating. Richard's family will receive friends at church on Tuesday from 10 A.M. until service time.
