Obituary of James Richard Hamme

James R. Hamme, age 94, passed away, Saturday, November 28, 2020. He was born in Bay City Michigan, September 29, 1926 to the late Edgar and Elizabeth (Gaukel) Hamme. Jim was always proud of his accomplishment in 1937, when at the young age of 10 years, he was the 1st place winner of the Bay City Soap Box Derby. That permitted him to compete that year in the International Soap Box Derby in Akron Ohio. He served his country in the U. S. Navy, was a Fireman for the City of Bay City, and was the owner of Hamme Fire Extinguisher Service for many years. He married Betty VanAkker on September 27, 1947, and she predeceased him in 2011.
He is survived by his children, Karen Hamme , Don (Kathy) Hamme, and Philip Hamme, all of Bay City; and granddaughter, Sara Hamme of Fresno CO. He was predeceased by his two sisters, Jean (Jim) Alarie and Nancy (Bob) Prophater. The family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff of Caretel for the great care given to their father and grandfather.
