Obituary of Rose Schwartzfisher Novey

Rose Novey of Saginaw Township died June 30, 2018. She was born in Petoskey, the daughter of John and Anna (Haas) Schwartzfisher. She graduated from St. Francis Xavier High School in Petoskey and attended Michigan State University where she earned a BS, MS and PhD while also working at Michigan Bell Telephone Co. and later at Lansing Community College. Rose met her husband, Don Novey, at MSU and they were married in Petoskey on August 18, 1968. He preceded her in death December 2, 2016. Rose retired in 2003 after teaching for 40 years at Lansing Community College, West Virginia State University and Saginaw Valley State University. Rose is survived by 3 brothers, John, Joseph (Louise) and Leo (Beverly) Schwartzfisher of Petoskey and 4 sisters, Catherine Schwartzfisher, Petoskey, Agnes Wahl, Lansing, Theresa Biggs, South Bend, Indiana, and Edith (Gordon) Kruskie of Cross Village, brother-in-law Don Haase, Petoskey, sister-in-law Ruth Schwartzfisher, Petoskey and many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents, sisters Helen Schwartzfisher, Mary Mead, Jean Haase, Rita Rietdorf and brothers Richard, Bernard and Alfred Schwartzfisher. According to her wishes, Rose has been cremated. A private service for family members and close friends will be held at a later date with burial at St. Francis Xavier cemetery in Petoskey.
