Valerie C. Pemberton "Gunny"
Bay City, MI
Val passed away peacefully at her home April 7, 2018. She was born September 30,
1941 in Chicago to her beloved parents, the late Hazel and James Nitschky. She
started practicing Histology in 1961, studying under the Sisters of
Mercy. She was an animal lover, movie buff, and avid music lover, with her favorite bands being ACDC, Scorpians, and Volbeat.
Her love and dedication to her family was immeasurable. In 1967 she
brought me into this world and rasied me on her own, and has been an
integral part of raising her grandchildren. She was rock solid and
loved like no other. She was strength and softness, honor and beauty.
She is survived by her daughter, Laurel Nitschky McClure; her
Grandchildren, Lizzie and Cameron McClure; her
daughter of choice Beth Lincoln and her children Donald and Paige;
sister, Pamela vanKlaveren; and niece, Jenni vanKlaveren.
She was predeceased by her beloved Grandmothers Lilly Nitschky, and
Lizzie Lee, her grandaughter Ellena McClure, and special niece Anne vanKlaveren.
Her motto was simple: love with all you are, protect your family, and
be as strong as you can.
Memorial Services will be held at 12 PM on May 5, 2018 at Hyatt Ewald Funeral Home. The
