Art was my neighbor back in the 1980's when I was a child. He was part of the big extended family of people that lived on my street/block. I was an unusual child in that I preferred the friendship of adults compared to others my own age. He never was condescending to me the way some adults can be to children. He was one of my mentors who taught he how to be a happy, well-adjusted, mature person.
As time moved on, so did we geographically. I never forgot him though and it was always a delightful surprise running into him around town. With his cheerful smile and good nature, it was impossible to have a bad day after seeing him.
It's been a few years since I last had run into him and missed him dearly. It saddens me to know I'll never have that chance again.
Many condolences to those who were closer to him in his life. May your hearts be filled with the love of those who also cherished him.
