Virginia Louise Newman, age 97, of Lansing, passed away peacefully on December 19, 2015. She was born September 9, 1918 to Archie and Myrtle (McCreery) Newman of Bay City. She is survived by her sister, Margaret Cranson of Grand Ledge; many nieces and nephews; great and great-great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents and brothers, Frederick, and Paul, and her brother Hubert Newman passing away in 2016.
Virginia graduated from Central Michigan University and began her 43 year teaching career in the rural schools of Bay and Saginaw Counties. She went on to teach in Wacousta, Grandville, and Port Huron Michigan; and as a critic teacher at Miami University in Oxford Ohio. She finally settled in Lansing and taught there until her retirement, while earning a Master's Degree in Education from Michigan State University. In retirement she devoted her time to volunteering, family, friends, and travel. She loved celebrating holidays and life's milestone occasions with her family and many of her lifelong friends. Virginia will be fondly remembered and deeply missed. A Memorial Celebration of her long and loving life will be held on June 17, 2016 from 12 Noon – 2 PM at the Hyatt Ewald Funeral Home, 700 N.
