formerly of Englewood FL Mrs. Starkweather passed away Saturday, December 1, 2012 in Florida. Age 98 years. Arlene was born September 9, 1914 to the late Edward and Grace Hayward Labadie in Saginaw Michigan. She married Kay Thompson Starkweather in Saginaw on December 2, 1937 at St. John's Episcopal Church by Rev. Emil Montanus. They spent summers at Linwood Beach with their children, moved from Saginaw in 1958 to Woodbury Connecticut, and retired to Englewood Florida in 1975. She was the oldest living graduate of Arthur Hill High School class of 1932. Arlene was a Watercolor Artist and active member of the Englewood Art Center, former member of the Venice Art Center, the Sarasota Art Assoc, the Oriental Brush Painters of Sarasota, the Sumi-E Society of America in Washington D.C., Englewood United Methodist Church, and the United Methodist Women. She enjoyed painting, concerts, playing bridge & MahJong, swimming, bicycling, and Bocci. During World War II she was an active member of the Red Cross Motor Corp.. She is survived by: her sons Frank E. Julia Starkweather and Thomas L. Michelle Starkweather both of Bay City MI; 4 grandchildren, Liberty and Stuart Starkweather, Morgan Jennifer Starkweather all of Bay City, and Thompson Starkweather of Redondo Beach CA; 3 great-great-grandchildren. A Life Celebration will be held Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at 7 PM at the Hyatt Ewald Funeral Home, 700 N. Monroe St., Bay City, MI. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 – 7 PM.
