Obituary of Albert W. Sworthwood

Mr. Sworthwood passed away Monday, October 13, 2014 at the age of 100. He was born May 31, 1914 in Paulding County Ohio to the late Marvin and Ida (Crosby) Sworthwood. He married Irene F. Cooney in Owosso on December 18, 1937 and she survives him. He has been an area resident most of his life. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and St. Vincent DePaul in Durand and worked at Genesee Merchants Bank as a loan officer prior to his retirement. He is survived by Irene, his wife of 76 years; his children, Margaret (Charles) Ondrick of Centerville OH, James (Carla) Sworthwood of Durand, Rosemary (Charles) West of Ypsilanti; 9 Grandchildren; 17 Great-grandchildren; sister, Opal Raushenburger of Middleville MI; brother in law, Donald Cooney of Durand; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Dorothy Ann, 3 brothers and 5 sisters. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, October 16, 2014 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 700 E. Columbia Dr., Durand MI. Fr. Jeffrey Poll will officiate. A private interment will take place at Greenwood Cemetery, Vernon MI. The family will receive friends at the church on Thursday from 9:30 AM until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorial contributions to St. Mary's Catholic Church in Durand.
