Obituary of Sandra Mae Michalek
Sandra Mae (Mills) Michalek, age 84, of Perry, Michigan, passed away on Sunday, December 17, 2023. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Sandy was born on March 13, 1939 to Orill and Dorothy Mills in Ithaca, Michigan. She was a graduate of Perry High School, class of 1957 where she met the love of her life, Robert Edward Michalek, whom she married on June 6, 1959.
Sandy was a very outgoing and social being. She was in her element when surrounded by people she knew and loved, as well as people she would enjoy getting to know. She was a valued and precious friend to many. Being involved in the lives of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren was always a priority and one of her greatest joys.
Sandy was very active in public service as the Perry Township Clerk for 25 years. She served on the Perry Township Planning Commission, Valley Area Council on Aging, and various other committees. She was a member of the Red Hat Society, Perry Garden Club, widows group, and the Shiawassee County Historical Society. She was an active member of St. Mary Catholic Church, past President of the Altar Society, coordinator of funeral luncheons, and has served on both the Parish Council and Festival Committee.
Left to cherish her memory are her five children, Cindy (Ron) Garrison, Greg (Peg) Michalek, Kelly (John) Comrie, Kerry Steele, and Steve Michalek; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Ken (Vedys) Mills. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; son-in-law, Scott Steele; granddaughter, Cassandra Shaft; great-grandson, Chase Irons; her parents, Orill & Dorothy Mills; in-laws, Frank & Elizabeth Michalek; brother, Brian Mills; brother and sisters-in-laws, Harry & Dorothy Sayles, Betty Livermore, Bob Willard, and Sue Mills.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated by Msgr. George C. Michalek on Friday, December 22, 2023 at 11:00 am, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 509 Main St., Morrice, Michigan. The family will receive friends at church on both Thursday, December 21, 2023 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm and from 6:00 - 8:00 pm, with a Rosary at 7:30 pm, and on Friday, from 10:00 am until the time of the service. Interment will immediately follow in Bethany Cemetery, Morrice Michigan. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorial contributions to St. Mary Catholic Church.
