William S.  “Zero” Lanagan III, of Bay City Michigan, passed away on February 17, 2023, at the age of 86. William was born on December 7, 1936, to the late Mildred Mary (DeMitchell) and William Stevens Lanagan II.

William was a United States Navy Veteran, ADJ 2nd Class. During his time in the Navy, William organized a blood drive for his daughter’s heart surgery with donations reaching over 2600 units of blood.

William enjoyed spending time with his family and many friends. He loved playing cards, especially the game of Cribbage, was a master at doing crossword puzzles, and loved playing pool, especially 9 hole. He also enjoyed restoring and repairing automobiles. In his early years William enjoyed playing the guitar and preforming with family and friends during gatherings. He loved fresh and saltwater fishing with his sons in Virginia Beach, VA and various watering holes throughout Michigan. For a time, William bore a striking resemblance to Willie Nelson and enjoyed when strangers thought he was and often played along. He enjoyed playing the lottery and doing scratch off tickets always hoping for “the big win”.

William is survived by his children, William S. (Susan) Lanagan IV; Evelyn, Elizabeth, Lyndsey, Kelly, Christopher, Joseph and William V. Brien D. Lanagan; Anne and Kayla. Patricia M. and (Randall) Paine; Jennifer and Stephanie. Patrick M. Lanagan; daughter-in-law, Cathy Lanagan, Adam, Douglas Jr, Coty; and eighteen great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

William was preceded in death by his siblings, Mildred (Toni) Naperalski and Charlene Mix; a step-brother, Charles Peterson; a daughter, Deborah A. Lanagan; and a son, Douglas E. Lanagan Sr.

A celebration of William’s life will take place at a later date as cremation has taken place.
