Starland, age 71, passed away Tuesday, November 15, 2022. He was born in Lansing Michigan to Willie and Dorothy (Norman) Smith. He did safety training and worked as an electrician at General Motors for 38 years. He is a former President of the Bay and Arenac Counties Trout Unlimited, was active with Camp Fishtails and the Boys and Girls Club, was an avid Michigan fan,and enjoyed working in his yard that he created with beautiful flowers and a vegetable garden. He also loved fishing and helping the community. Starland was a spiritual and loving human being, that started his day with daily readings of the scripture from the BIBLE. His parents gave him the name that was so appropriate for him, Star, he truly had a light that shined. A light still shining bright.
He is survived by his mother, Dorothy M. Smith; his brother Derrick (Guadalupe Reyez) Smith; sisters, Judy Smith, Gwendolyn (Charles) Scales, and Dorothy McQueen; many nieces and nephews; and a host of special friends.
The funeral service will be held at 11 AM, Monday, November 21, 2022, at Second Baptist Church, 1770 W. Youngs Ditch Road, Bay City MI, with Pastor Marcelle Smith officiating. The family will receive friends from 2 – 7 PM, Sunday, November 20, 2022 at the Hyatt Ewald Funeral Home, 700 N. Monroe St., Bay City MI and on Monday, at church prior to the service from 10 - 11 AM.
